Radiator and Other Leaks
Radiator and other coolant leaks are usually obvious because the coolant seeps, bubbles, sprays or drips from the leaking component . If the leak is unnoticed, eventually the engine will overheat from coolant loss. Leaks can occur anywhere in the cooling system. Radiators develop leaks at top or bottom hose connections due to vibration. Leaks also occur where the radiator core joins the end tanks. Also the area where the cooling tubes in the core join the core headers. The radiator itself is also susceptible to stone damage. Also a major factor in many radiator leaks is internal corrosion that eats away from the inside out. In other words radiators can leak from almost everywhere. Most modern cooling systems operate at 8 - 14 psi, so if the radiator can't hold pressure your engine will overheat and lose coolant. K-Seal repairs leaks from water pump mounting gaskets, o-ring mountings, and casing cracks. If water dribbles out of the vent hole just under the pulley shaft, this means that a shaft seal is worn. The repair for this is a replacement water pump.
