Fiat 126 Bis

Engine: 704cc twin cylinder water cooled Year : 1988 Mileage : 37,000 Date Purchased: May 2004 Date Sold : June 2005

I bought this car as a project. 'Open to Offers', described as 'Starts and Runs' and looked like it had sat in a garden for years. I trailered it home. When I checked, the oil looked like chocolate cream. So I changed the oil. I checked internet forums for Fiat 126 Bis's, and found that cooling sytem, thermostat, and cylinder head problems were common. The old service and repair bills first mentioned the cooling system at 4400 miles. There were several more mentions, and I now suspected, rather late, why it had sat unused. I checked the new oil 2 days later. In that time, I had started and idled the car about 3 or 4 times. The fresh oil had turned to chocolate milk-shake colour, the 'oil' level had risen, and when I drained some off I could see large globules of water in it. The head gasket seemed to have failed. I bought some K-Seal, drained out the contaminated oil, and refilled with fresh. I poured the K-seal into the cooling system, started and warmed up the car as the instructions said. This cured the problem completely.
